2. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Macedonia Baptist Church. 4 Mrs. Virginia Blount Johnson, 66, of 340 Livingston Terrace, Orangeburg, died Friday, May 26, 2000, at her residence. The funeral will be held at 4 p.m.

Sunday, May 28, 2000, at St. Andrews United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Theron Smith officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Robert Holman, Dr. Lawton alley, Dr. Bert Gue, Dr. Jack Rheney Tom Bryant, Bobby Ayers, William B.

Hamilton, Bobby Bolen, Dr. Henry Frierson and Dr. Ira Horton. Mrs. Johnson was born in Orangeburg, a daughter of the late Edward R.

Blount and Annie Laurie Felder Blount. She was a graduate of The Medical University of South Carolina School of Nursing. She was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church, past member of the church board, former Sunday school teacher and member of the Fellowship Sunday school class and the Lillian Dawsey Circle. She was past president of the Junior Service League of Orangeburg and the South Carolina Medical Alliance.

She was a former member of the Board of Trustees of The Regional Medical Center and was a recent President of The Regional Medical Center Foundation, in 1999 she received the Community Service Award from the South Carolina Health Alliance in recognition of her many contributions to Health and Healthcare in her community. Survivors include her widower, Dr. C. Birnie Johnson of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Marion F.

(Laurie) Inabinet 111, in Rowesville, a daughter of the late Lindelle Govan and Elandus Rickenbacker Jr. She was a member of Cedar Grove AME Church. She attended the public schools of Brooklyn, N.Y. After returning to South Carolina she attended Denmark Technical College in Denmark and the Vocational Rehabilitation Center of Orangeburg. Survivors include her widower, Willie James Toomer of Bamberg; an aunt who raised her, Leola Livingston of the home; a grandmother, Ella Rickenbaker of Cordova; two brothers, James Anthony Summers of Rowesville and Henry Clay Summers of Charlotte, N.C.; a sister, Dorothy Ballen of Orangeburg; and two grandchildren.

Friends may call at the residence and at' Glover's Funeral Home of Orangeburg. Clarence Walker Jr. Clarence Walker of Augusta, and formerly of Denmark, died Tuesday, May 23, 2000, in the VA Hospital in Augusta, Ga. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Lebby Funeral Home Chapel in Denmark, with the Rev.

Joseph Tucker officiating. Burial will be in Denmark Community Cemetery. Mr. Walker was born in Denmark, a son of the late Clarence Walker and Flossie Jones Walker. He was a member of Rome Baptist Church and a World War II Army veteran.

Survivors include, Mrs. Eartha Lee Jones McCreary of Denmark and a number of cousina Mrs. Louise H. Williams The funeral for Mra Louise H. Williams, of Fort Motte community, will be held at 3 p.m.

Sunday, May 28, 2000, at New Bethany Baptist Church in Ft. Motte, with the Rev. Frank Parker officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be the Deacon Board.

Mrs. Williams died Wednesday. She was born Sept. 9, 1913, in Calhoun County, a daughter of late Neberson and Hager Heatley. She was the widow of the Rev.

Peter Williams. At an early age, she joined the New Bethany Baptist Church. She was president of the Senior Choirs, Missionary Auxiliary Treasurer, Pulpit Aid Club, and former first lady of Jerusalem Baptist Church. Survivors include four daughters, Ms. Vertelle Heatley of Bronx, N.Y., Sarah McPherson of New York, Jannie B.

Williams of the home, Minister Joanne Williams of New York; five sons, the Rev. Louis C. Williams of Piscataway, N. Master Sergeant Joe Nathan Williams of Ft. Washington, Elder Peter Williams of Passiac, N.J., the Rev.

George A. Williams of West Mifflin, Rev. Benny Williams of New Carrolton, 24 grandchildren; 13 greatgrandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. The family 1 will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Carson's Funeral Home in St.

Gressette, St. Matthews businessman, former Gamecock standout, dies Howard Bryant Howard Bryant 72, of 425 East 100 10th New York, died Tuesday, May 23, 2000, at Beth Israel Hospital North, New York. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday at Granger Baptist Church, Elloree, with the Rev.

Julius Hanberry and Minister Mack officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Bryant was born May 8, 1928, in Halifax, N.C., a son of the late William Bryant and Emma Cherry. He was educated at Halifax High School and continued his education in New York.

He became a member of St Luke Baptist Church of New York. Survivors include his widow, Mra Helen Williams Bryant of New York; two daughters, Angela M. Bryant and Doris Bryant Thompkins, both of New York; a brother, Thurman Bryant of New York five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs.

Howard D. Williams, of 589 Carriage Hill Elloree and at Williams Funeral Home of Elloree. Mrs. Isabelle G. Burden Graveside service for Mrs.

Isabelle Gates Burden, 76, of 10592 Myrtle Oak Lane, Largo, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, May 28, 2000, at West End Cemetery, St. Matthews, with the Rev. Craig Pipkin officiating. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Gates, Jerry Waystack, Sammy Barnette, Terry Gates, Tristram Waystack, Calvin Johnson and Tommy Edens.

Mrs. Burden died Wednesday. She was born in St. Matthews, a daughter of the late Lide Moorer Gates and Erminnia "Minna" Gaskin Gates. She was a graduate of St.

Matthews High School. She was a lifetime member of St. Matthews Presbyterian Church. She lived in many parts of the U.S. and was very active in volunteer community work.

She was a leader in organizing programs for senior citizens and received the Jefferson Award from the Governor of New Mexico for her outstanding service to her community of Corrales, N.M. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Corrales, N.M. She was the widow of Chester L. Burden. Survivors include a daughter, Milley Burden of Largo, a grandson; and a sister, Ella Gates Busick of Richmond Ind.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home, 161 Elliott Orangeburg. Friends may call at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials may be made to St. Matthews Presbyterian Church or the American Lung Association, 1740 Broadway, New York, N.Y.

Charles Harris HaynesSr. The funeral for Charles Harris Haynes 70, of 532 Duncan Orangeburg, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 28, 2000, at Macedonia Baptist Church, Orangeburg, with the St Thomas Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Barnwell, with the Rev. John Young, the Rev.

Wade Scott, the Rev. James Moody, the Rev. Sanka Davis, the Rev. Phillip Watson officiating. Burid wiU be the church cemetery.

The casket will be placed in the church at 12:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be family members. Honorary Pallbearers will be deacons and sons. Mr. Moody died Tuesday.

He was born in Barnwell County, a son of the late Robert and Mrs. Ethel Bates Moody. He was a member of the St Thomas Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He was the widower of Mra Willie Mae Lawrence. He was educated in Green Branch Training School in Dunbarton.

He was a retired farmer of the Birt and Craig Farms. Survivors include a daughter, Daisy Moody of Williston; five sons, Luther Moody, Jr. of Bronx, N.Y., Robert Moody and Monroe Moody, both of Fairfax, Larry Moody of Springfield and Larry R. Hutto of Savannah, four sisters, Mrs. Josephine Green of St.

Louis, Mrs. Geneva Mixon and Mrs. George (Elouise) Kelly, both of Williston, and Mrs. Marie Armstrong of Jacksonville, three brothers, Nollie Moody, Willie Moody, Monroe Moody, all of St. Petersburg, eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Ms.

Betty Hutto of Williston. A wake will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Simmons Funeral Home of Williston. Friends may call at the residence and at the funeral home. Infant Ravenel Infant Ravenel, of 319-A Calhoun St.

Matthews, died Friday, May 26, 2000. Infant Ravenel was the son of Ivory Ravenel. Funeral plans will be announced by J.P. Holley Funeral Home of St. Matthews.

Hermans. Sanders Sr. Herman S. Sanders 88 of Charlotte, N.C., and formerly of Ulmer, died Friday, May 19, 2000. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m.

Saturday, May 27, 2000, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Ulmer. Burial will be in Hoover Cemetery. Mr. Sanders was born Old Barnwell County, a son of the late Louisa Sanders and Mose Sanders.

He was retired from Savannah River Plant He was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Willie L. Sanders of Tampa, and Bettye Wilson of Hempstead, N.Y.; two sons, Herman Sanders Jr. and McArthur Sanders, both of Charlotte, N.C.; 13 grandchildren; and 10 Cave Funeral Service of Allendale is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Claydelle Taylor Ms. Claydelle Taylor, 65, of 128 Lewis Ave. Apt. 3-E, Brooklyn, N.Y., died Wednesday, May 17, 2000.

The funeral was held at 7 p.m. Monday, May 22, 2000, at Merritt Green and Jefferson Funeral Home of Brooklyn, N.Y. Burial was in Plain Lawn Cemetery, Hicksville, N.Y. She was born Dec 8, 1934, in St Matthews, a daughter of Jake and Maude Taylor. She was a graduate of John Ford High School.

She moved to New York at an early age and attended the Borough of Manhattan Community College, went to adult learning school and attended Medgar Evers College. Survivors include a son Jay of the home; and a brother, Frank of New York. Mrs. Linda E. Govan Toomer The funeral for Mrs.

Linda E. Govan Toomer 41, of 204 Dukes Street, Rowesville, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 28, 2000, at Cedar Grove AME Church, Cordova, with the Rev. Nathaniel Bookhardt officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Tyrone Calloway, Frankie Calloway, Antwan Calloway, Lamont Duley, James Brown and Melvin Whaley. Mrs. Toomer died Wednesday. She was born Jan. 26, 1959, The casket will be placed in the church at Charles Ham's Haynes Sr.

1:30 p.m. Mr. Haynes died Thursday. He was born Jan. 31, 1930, in Orangeburg, a son of the late Charlie Green and Ma Estelle Haynes.

He received his education in the public schools of Orangeburg. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, where he was the chairman of the Board of Deacons and Sunday school superintendent of the church. He served as a boardsman of the Andrew Chapel Educational and Missionary Sunday School Union. He recently received recognition as one of the shining superintendents in the Orangeburg Orthodox Baptist Sunday School Convention. He worked actively with the Mt.

Pisgah Union and The Orangeburg-Orthodox Baptist Association. He served in the US. Army during the Korean War. He received the Korean Service Medal with two bronze service stars, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Combat Infantry Badge. He served as a brother and Senior Steward of the St.

John Lodge No. 2 of the Williams Grand Masonic Temple. He was a former employee of Plywood and was currently employed at Wal-Mart. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Lorise Haynes of the home; three sons, Charles Haynes Jr.

of Pensacola, Ricky Haynes of Walterboro and Russell Haynes of Orangeburg; a daughter, Mrs. Gwendolyn Singleton of Orangeburg; a sister, Mrs. Margaret Rivers of Orangeburg; and six grandchildren. A wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Newton Funeral Home of Orangeburg.

Jackson Wilson Eugene "Hammerdick" Jackson, 66, of 1036 Jackson Belt Holly Hill, died Friday, May 26, 2000, at his residence following an extended illness. Sandy Hatchell and the Rev. John Whiten officiating. Burial will be in Target United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mr. Jackson was born in Holly Hill, a son of the late William Henry Jackson and Willie Mae Whetsell Jackson.

He was a retied truck driver for Southern Bulk Hauler after 29 years. He was a member of Target United Methodist Church. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Leila Sweatman Jackson of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Marie J.

Jones of Bowman; a son, Ronnie E. Jackson of Bowman; seven sisters, Mrs. Katherine J. Player of Orangeburg, Mrs. Grace J.

Branham and Mrs. Diane J. Dantzler, both of Holly Hill, Mrs. Christine J. Blake of Norway, Mrs.

Nancy J. Lane of Sumter, Mrs. Ruby J. Young of Charleston and Mrs. Barbara J.

Matthews for two terms, and was elected as Chairman of the Calhoun County School Board. He was a Rotarian and served as president of the Rotary Club of St. Matthews. Mr. Gressette, along with his brothers, organized the South Carolina Senior Golf Circuit in his retirement years.

He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of St. Matthews, serving as a deacon, Finance Committee chairman, and Sunday school teacher. Survivors include his children, Emily G. Rucker, Elizabeth Gressette, and Ashby Gressette; and three grandchildren. The family will receive friends at his home place on West Bridge Street Dukes-Harley Funeral Home of Orangeburg is in charge of arrangements.

The family suggests memorials may be made to the Children's Fund of First Baptist Church in St Matthews or to a charity of one's choice. Robert Emil Gressette, 89, of St. Matthews, died Friday, May 26, 2000. The funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 28, 2000, at First Baptist Church in St.

Matthews. Burial will be in West End Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his nephews: John Thomas Gressette, William Nathan Gressette Tatum Wannamaker Gressette Lawrence Marion Gressette Furman Reeves Gressette Thomas Parker Gressette, James Hill Gressette Clarence Bates Felder and John Gressette Felder. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Bobby Gressette Sunday School Class. Mr.

Gressette was born July 18, 1910, in St. Matthews, a son of the late John Thomas Gressette and Rosa Wannamaker Gressette. He was the widower of Margaret Rickenbacker Gressette. He graduated from the University of South Carolina, where he served as captain of the Gamecocks for the 1930 football season. He was recognized by the All America Board of Football and named an All State End his senior year.

In addition to his gridiron accomplishments, he served as secretary-treasurer of the Student Body, vice president of the German Club, and was a member of Pi Kappa Phi, Omicron Delta Kappa, Block Cotillion Club, and Blue Key. Following college he taught and coached at Richmond Academy in Augusta, for six years. Returning to St. Matthews, he organized and operated Gressette Motor Company, a Ford dealership, and also farmed. In Loving Memory of Julia Smith JSsntiai.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Ernestine Whitfield of the home; four sons, Ephanes Wright of Bronx, N.Y., Freddie Wright and Willie Wright, both of Eutawville and Lester Whitfield of Clinton, three daughters, Letha Wright of Columbia, Cynthia Whitfield and Sherrie Whitfield, both of New York; two brothers, Isreal Wright and Willie Bradshaw, both of Eutawville; two sisters, Amelia Wright of Eutawville and Ruby Mcintosh of West Orange, N.J.; an adopted son, Walter Fuller of Eutawville; 15 grandchildren; and two greatgrandchildren.
