MRS. JOHNETTE EDWARDS CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) Mrs. Johnette Green Edwards, executive director of Trident Forum for the Handicapped, died here Wednesday The funeral will be Saturday in Charleston. Mrs.

Edwards, a graduate of South Carolina State College, became in 1965 the first black to be professionally employed by the S.C. Department of Mental Retardation. She was coordinator and regional consultant of community services. She aided in the development of community services for the mentally retarded and helped establish day-care centers for the disabled in Beaufort, Berkeley and Colleton Counties. Mrs.

Edwards had recently completed her fourth term as president of the S.C. Federation of Women's and Girls Clubs. She was the wife of John A. Edwards of Charleston and is survived by her mother, Mrs. Cornelia B.

Green of Barnwell; a son, Mencer D. Edwards of Atlanta, and a daughter, Cornelia Edwards of Charleston. Gaskins (Continued From Page IB) daughter of a former state legislator, two others he said were ordered by a "law enforcement man" and two men that another man has already been convicted of killing. Gaskins also admitted killing Dennis Bellamy, 28, an unmarried carpenter-roofer, who was found along with seven others in shallow graves near the Florence County community of Prospect in December 1975. Gaskins, 44, and Walter Leroy Neely were convicted last year in Florence of Bellamy's death and were sentenced to die.

But, their sentences were commuted to life imprisonment after South Carolina's capital punishment law was struck down. The seven included three women, a 15-year-old boy, and a 2-year-old girl. State Energy Group Forming Two Orangeburg citizens are currently working to form a South Carolina chapter of Americans for Energy Independence (AEI), a non-profit tax-exempt citizens group made up of scientists and com-munity leaders throughout the USA. The two local citizens, Raymond Sifly and Ken Rogers, said they are working to promote sound government policies and educate the public to avoid future fuel crises. They are saying the solution will be just as complex as the problem and will not occur quickly, and that the AEI has already had input to the President's Energy Policy and plans to continue as a consumer energy advocate.

Sifly and Rogers are asking those interested persons in learning about or supporting the AEI to contact them by writing: PO Box 1812, Orangeburg, SC 291 15. gave them the break they needed by playing it on his show. Their latest record, "Everybody Be is another catchy tune which appears to be on its way up the charts. It is being heard now on local stations, and will undoubtedly be one of the selections most anticipated by their Orangeburg audience. The group is much in demand at the major entertainment centers such as Disney World, and on college campuses throughout the country. If this event is a success, as advance ticket sales indicate that it will be, the local sponsors say they plan to give area music-lovers more opportunities to see and hear such popular groups right here at home.
