CASA In Sunday's edition of The by a crisis in his own life. The offender is likely to be involved in alcohol and drug abuse. He is much more likely to choose girls as victims than the fixated type. The regressed type of molestor is the incest perpetrator. This offender may even marry or initiate a relationship with an adult in order to have access to one particular child.

This type of molestor will continue his sexual activity as long as he lives, though the fixated molestor may bring his to a close much earlier. In general, children do not lie when they report an incidence of sexual assault to their parents or friends. If your child should report such an incident to you, make every effort to receive the information as calmly as you can. To prevent such incidents, parents should teach their child that no one has the right to touch his or her private parts, and that if anyone attempts to, the incident should be reported immediately. Again, this advice should be given to the child in a calm and matter-of-fact way.

Parents should repeat this advice at intervals, especially with very young children who may have forgotten. Citizens must remember that they should report suspected cases of incest, in order to further prevent abuse to the child victim and obtain medical and emotional treatment for the child. Otherwise, there is every chance that the viscious cycle will repeat itself for generations. This is the third in a series of articles provided by Tri County Citizens Against Sexual Assault Inc. during Orangeburg County Rape Awareness Week.

Child molestation is one of the most sickening and frightening of all crimes, due to the age of its victims. It is also a very common and under-reported crime. Families are slow to report child molestation, particularly incest, because of the shame involved. There are many instances of whole families being aware that a child is being regularly abused by another family member, yet no one admits it openly or reports the offender to the police. The trail of grief this brings is even more tragic than the original offense.

Children who are sexually abused very often grown up to abuse their own or other people's children. This is too common a pattern to be ignored. Secondly, the original offender will not stop his attentions with one child, but usually repeats the offense with another child. A molestor persuades or entices his victims, while a rapist uses force and threats. Dr.

Nicholas Groth, worldwide authority on rapists and their patterns, divides molestors into two groups: Fixated and regressed. The fixated molestor is generally not married, and he does not have a relationship with a member of another sex. He becomes sexually interested in children as early as his own puberty. He premeditates his offense, and he lures the victim to him over a long period of time. The victim he selects may even resemble the offender at the particular age his sexual interest began.

The regressed molestor usually begins his behavior much later in life than the fixated molestor. His sexual aberrance may be precipitated JUTE OR RUBBER BACK Should you select carpet with jute backing, or rubber backing? First, let's define the two terms. Jute is a woven backing derived from fibrous plants native to India, and the Far East. Rubber is a cushioned, spongy carpet backing. Rubber backed carpets do not require padding, while jute backed carpet needs a separate pad underneath.

However, the cost of rubber backed carpets and the combined cost of jute and pad will likely be quite close in the same quality of goods. So, it's really up to the individual customer. We have carpets with jute backing and with rubber backing. Take your pick. "It appears that South Carolinians are somewhat com-fortable in their own neighborhoods, while their general fear of crime remains high," said Dr. Gene Stephens, associate professor in the USC College of Criminal Justice and director of the Fear of Crime Poll.

"This is similar to findings in other polls," Stephens added. "At its core, the fear of crime is a fear of strangers, a fear of the unknown. That's the reason people usually feel safer in their own neighborhood, even if they live in a high crime area despite evidence that a relative, friend or neighbor is much more likely to harm you than a stranger."
