Wilkes founder of Calhoun Pharmacy, dies at 79 POLICE REPORTS Cops find stolen Chevy when serving local man i with family court warrant Warren Wilkes and James Lawrence Wilkes; and a sister, Grace Louise Baker. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Barbara Lewis Wilkes; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Edwin Wilkes Jr. (Regina) of Tnibull, a daughter, Sherelyn Dale Wilkes of Bangor, Maine; a stepdaughter, Mrs.

Michael (Ann Lewis) Shealy of St. Matthews; a step-son, Malcolm David Lewis of St. Matthews; a sister, Mrs. Annie Elizabeth "Lib" W. Taylor of Maiming; two brothers, Clyde A.

Wilkes Jr. of Manning and William H. Wilkes of Swansea; and a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home.

At other times, friends may call at the residence and at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 1808 Bridge St. East, St. Matthews, SC 29135.

Robert Edwin Wilkes 79, of 241 Murph Mill Road, St. Matthews, died Tuesday, May 24, 2005, at The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg. Funeral services will be held at 1 1 a.m. Friday, May 27, at St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev.

James McGee officiating. Burial will be in West End Cemetery. Mr. Wilkes was born in Alcolu, a son of the late Clyde A. and Pearl Victoria Wilkes.

He was a graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina in pharmacy. He founded and operated Calhoun Pharmacy for 47 years until his retirement in 1996. Mr. Wilkes was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Calhoun Development Board and the Rotary Club of St.

Matthews. He was honored in 1995 as "Rotary Man of the Year." He was predeceased by two brothers, Claude Mrs. Orie Howard Hooker Mrs. Orie Howard Hooker, 79, of 188 Calhoun Road, St. Matthews, died Wednesday, May 25, 2005, at The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, May 27, at First Assembly of God in St. Matthews with Pastor Kevin Darby officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The casket will be placed in the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Hooker was born June 26, 1925, in Alcolu, a daughter of the late Lee Howard and Sally Haniford Howard. She was a member of First Assembly of God Church in St. Matthews. Survivors include her husband, Horace V.

Hooker of St. Matthews; one sister, Marie H. Hildebrand; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the residence of Mr. and Mrs.

Paul (De-bra) H. Chandler, 178 Kempson Lane, St. Matthews and at the funeral home. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc.

in Orangeburg. Mrs. Lillie Mae Smith Agee Funeral services for Mrs. Lillie Mae Smith Agee, 89, of 1687 rived at the Cameron Highway business, he discovered a fuel regulator, carburetor, radiator and other parts were missing. The man said the parts are worth about $3,500.

Barnwell County Sheriff's Office Seven individuals were arrested in separate incidents last week on charges varying from domestic violence to theft of utilities. I Joyce Mae Williams, 43, of Allendale, was arrested May 1 7 and charged with assault and battery before being taken to the Barnwell County Detention Center. i A Williston man, 48, was arrested May 16 and charged with failure to appear and was taken to the BCDC. A Springfield man, 18, was arrested May 16 and charged with pointing a firearm. He was then taken to the BCDC.

A Barnwell woman, 44, was released on bond after being charged with unlawful use of the telephone on May 1 7. A Williston man, 41, was arrested May 1 8 and charged with utilities theft and malicious injury to personal property. He was taken to the BCDC. A Williston woman, 32, was arrested May 1 9 and charged with failure to pay and taken to the BCDC. A Williston man, 42, was arrested May 22 and charged with criminal domestic violence before being taken to the BCDC.

Staff Report Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office A Eutawville man could be facing a charge of receiving stolen goods after the service of a warrant last week turned up a stolen car. Deputies went to a Grey-stone Court residence on May 19 to serve a family court warrant on a Eutawville man. While at the residence, deputies noticed several Chevrolet Caprices, or "box-style" Chevrolets, in the backyard. Several engines and various other parts were also in the yard. When deputies ran the VIN numbers on the vehicles, one Caprice came back as stolen out of West Columbia.

Officers in West Columbia confirmed the vehicle had been stolen from their jurisdiction. In a separate report: A Denmark man notified police Tuesday after being informed someone had made off with parts to his race car. The man said that at about 8 a.m., an employee of Roy's Machine Shop called him to say that two tires were missing from the man's vehicle. The man had taken the vehicle in to have repairs made. Funeral services for Mr. Wilbur Sanders Jr. will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 27, 2005, at St. Peter, AME Church, Cameron, with the Rev.

Virginia A.M. Stith officiating. Burial will be in Cameron Cemetery. The casket will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service. Mr.

Sanders died Monday, May 23, at The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg. He was born January 7, 1947, in Orangeburg County, a son of the late Wilbur Sanders Sr. and the late Pearline Brown Sanders. At an early age, he joined St. Peter AME Church in Cameron.

He was a graduate of St. John High School in Cameron and Denmark Technical College with an associate degree in plumbing. Mr. Sanders was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a master plumber for 35 years and was employed at South Carolina State University for many years.

Survivors include three children, Mrs. Michelle Kilgore of Fountain Inn, Mrs. Wanda Cor-ley of Omaha, and James Haigler of Columbia; one sister, Mrs. Martin (Nancy) Meadows of Barnwell; four grandchildren; a very special friend; and a host of nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends. Viewing and visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m.

Thursday at Jenkins Funeral Home in Cameron. Friends may call at the funeral home. Deadlines Deadlines for submission of obituaries will be 6 p.m. daily, although funeral directors are encouraged to submit between noon and 4 p.m. daily.

Bates Jr. Lynwood R. Bates 59, of 537 Rutland Road, Neeses, died Wednesday, May 25, 2005, at The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 28, at Bethany Baptist Church in the Bolentown community with the Rev.

Steve Scott and the Rev. Henry Cooper officiating. Mr. Bates was born Oct. 24, 1945, in Orangeburg County, a son of Margaret Sanford Moore and the late Lynwood R.

Bates Sr. He was retired from the South Carolina State Government as an inspector. He served in the National Guard, was a member of Norway Masonic Lodge and a member of Bethany Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Janet C.

Bates of Bolentown community; two sons and daughters-in-law, M. Jason and Tina Bates and Gary B. and Susan Bates, all of Bolentown community; his mother, Margaret Moore, of Bolentown community; four grandchildren, Justin Bates, Taylor Bates, Ashton Bates and Julia Etheridge, all of Bolentown community; and one brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Wanda Bates of Bolentown community. She was born April 22, 1916, in Orangeburg County, a daughter of the late John Walter Smith and the late Minnie Williams Smith. She was educated in the Orangeburg County school system. She accepted Christ and joined Antioch Baptist Church at an early age. She moved to Brooklyn, N.Y., and later relocated to Detroit, where she met and married the late Walter Agee. While she made her home in Detroit, she worked hard, traveled extensively and retired as a nursing assistant.

She became a member of Second Baptist Church of Detroit where she worked untiringly, receiving many awards including being crowned Mammoth Queen. Mrs. Agee remained faithful in the work of the Lord until her health began to fail. She returned to South Carolina in 1999 and rejoined Antioch Baptist Church. Upon returning, she resided with her niece, Shirley T.

Ford, and later was a long-time resident of Longwood Plantation Assisted Living Home, Orangeburg. Her only son, Clarence Smith; daughter-in-law, Minnie Peals Smith; six brothers; and three sisters preceded her in death. Survivors include three grandchildren, Alan Smith of Atlanta, Sheryl Smith and Michael Smith, both of Teaneck, N.J.; One great-granddaughter, Ashley Smith; one great-great-granddaughter, Rochelle Smith; one sister, Senetta Smith of Jersey City, N.J.; two special nieces and caregivers, Shirley T. Ford and Brenda Avant; 1 1 nieces; seven nephews; three sisters-in-law; and a host of relatives and friends. Friends may call at the residence of her niece, Ms.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, May 27, at Two Mile Swamp Baptist Church in Cope with the Rev. Tommy Richardson and the Rev.

Chuck Wells officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The casket will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Pallbearers will be Tony Dan-nelly, Darrell Berry, Lamar Collins, Tommy Gibson, Kevin Collins, Al Dannelly and Robert Dannelly. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons and Senior Men's Class of Two Mile Swamp Baptist Church.

Mr. Sanford was born July 31, 1917, in Orangeburg, a son of the late William Franklin Sanford and the late Lula Antley Sanford. He was a 1937 graduate of Mars Hill College. He retired from A. L.

Hughes and Son. He was a member of Two Mile Swamp Baptist Church where he served as secretary and music director for 40 years and was a lifetime Sunday School teacher and deacon. He was also a member of Triple and a former part-time florist. He loved his church and was very faithful to his church. Mr.

Sanford was preceded in death by his wife, Bunnie B. Sanford. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Darell (Kay) Berry of the Canaan community; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bert H. (Donna) Sanford, Kenneth (Jane) Sanford, all of Two Mile community, and Kevin Sanford of the home; five grandchildren, Kayla and Richard Moore of Aiken, Todd Sanford of Two Mile community, and Brittney and Celena Berry of the Canaan community; a number of nieces and nephews; and a special niece and nephew, Clyde and Jeanene Cain of Two Mile community.

Friends may call at the residence, 1439 Bonnette Road, Cope and at the funeral home. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Two Mile Swamp Baptist Church Recreation Fund, 1066 Bonnette Road, Cope, SC 29038.

By RICHARD WALKER Staff Writer Three Bowman men charged with a Christmas Day murder are expected to make an appearance in General Sessions court today. David Ray Harper, 41; Rodney Grant Williams, 25; and Jason Allen Cook, 22, all Land's Down Road addresses, are each charged with one count of murder. The men were taken into custody the day after Christmas, shortly after investigators located the body of 22-year-old Alex Kelly, of 343 Land's Down Road. On Dec.

26, deputies received a call concerning a possible body in a wooded area near the Bowman-Vance Road. Kelly's body was found after a brief search in a wooded area.
