MARCH 23, 2005 THE TIMES AND DEMOCRAT www.TheTandD.com OBITUARIES Charles E. Hughes Sr. Charles Edward Hughes 74, of 7747 Broxton Bridge Road, Bamberg, died Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 3 Thursday, March 24, in Colston Branch Baptist Church, directed by Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Ehrhardt-Bamberg Chapel.

Burial will be in church cemetery. Mr. Hughes was born Aug. 11, 1930, in Clearpond community of Bamberg County, a son of the late Arthur Roy Hughes and Nell Rentz Hughes. He was a retired farmer, an avid hunter and fisherman, and was a graduate of Ehrhardt High School.

He was a member of Colston Branch Baptist Church, Ehrhardt Masonic Lodge, Clearpond Hunting Club, and was a volunteer coach for the girl's softball team at Andrew Jackson Academy. He was affectionately known as "Sir Charles." He was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Stuckey Hughes. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Lataine Padgett Hughes; a son, Charles Edward Hughes Jr. and his wife, Jan, of Bamberg; a daughter, Brenda H. Nipper and her husband, Larry, of Bamberg; grandchildren, Elizabeth Bunch and her husband, Marshall, of Bamberg, Jessica R.

Nipper of Spartanburg, and Gordon Nipper, Christopher Hughes and Jillian R. Hughes, all of Bamberg; a great-grandchild, John Marshall Bunch II of Bamberg; sisters, Wilma Wilson and her husband, Bennie, of Bamberg, Sally Miller and her husband, James, of Neeses and Eunice Sease and her husband, Hallman, of Ehrhardt; and a brother, Bennie K. Hughes and his wife, Marsha, of Ehrhardt. Family and friends may call from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Brice W.

Box 98, Ehrhardt, SC 29081, or to Colston Branch Baptist Church, 655 Sunday School Road, Bamberg, SC 29003. Mrs. Margaret Rhoad Margaret Rhoad, 83, of Bamberg, died Tuesday, March 22, 2005. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, March 25, at Springtown Baptist Church.

Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Rhoad was the daughter of the late Charlie and Florence Axson and was the wife of the late Nat Rhoad. She was an active member of Springtown Baptist Church and was retired from Bamberg County Hospital and Carrigg Manor. Survivors include three daughters, Molly and Jack Thomas of Columbia, Martha Post of Palm Harbor, and Florence and Ron Moulder of Orange Park, one sister, Reba Crowl; one sister-in-law, Lois Axson; four granddaughters; three grandsons; and greatgrandchildren.

Mrs. Sutcliffe was born Sept. 11, 1915, in Springfield, a daughter of the late Julian Robert Douglas and the late Adelle Steverson Douglas.

She was graduated from Springfield High School in 1932. She was a member of Northgate Baptist Church. She was retired from Hamricks in St. Matthews. Mrs.

Sutcliffe was the widow of Dewey Gordon Sutcliffe Sr. and was preceded in death by two sons, Rondal E. Sutcliffe and John M. Sutcliffe. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Dewey and Judi Stucliffe of Orangeburg and Robert and Elsie Sutcliffe of Lexington; a daughter-in-law, Ann Sutcliffe of Lexington; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

Friends may call at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Sutcliffe, 1170 Glenwood Drive, Orangeburg, and Thompson Funeral Home Inc. in Orangeburg. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m.

Thursday, March 24, 2005, in St. George United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Wash Belangia officiating. Burial will be in St.

George Cemetery Mrs. Pate died Monday, March 21, at her home after a brief illness. She was born Feb. 23, 1933, in St. George, a daughter of the late Lewis William Kizer and Seale Howell Kizer.

She was a 1950 graduate of St. George High School and 1953 graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina School of Nursing. A registered nurse, she retired as a public health nurse for Dorchester County Health Department. A member of Royal Red Hatters, St. George United Methodist Church and United Workers Sunday School Class, she served as a church trustee and a church hostess.

She was predeceased by twin daughters, Sue and Lou Pate; and a sister, Mildred B. Bryant. Survivors include her loving husband of 52 years, Francis Marion "Pete" Pate; a son, Lewis A. Pate; a daughter and her husband, Frances Anne "Nan" and Marion Clayton; two granddaughters, Audrey Susan Clayton and Rachel Marian Clayton; and a sister, Lula Ree Dukes, all of St. George.

He was born June 3, 1965, in Orangeburg, a son of James "Tootsie Pop" Brown and Rosa Lee Brown. He attended Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School and Morgan Field Job Corps in Kentucky.

He was employed by Smith's Pools for many years. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Willie Brown and Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Inabinet; three aunts; and one uncle. Survivors include two daughters, Erica and Aubrianna Calloway; his parents of Orangeburg; his grandmother, Mrs.

Cora Lee Brown of Orangeburg; four brothers, Ernest (Rosia) Inabinet, James "Tony" (Rosiland) Brown, Dennis, (Carolina) Brown and Reginald Brown, all of Orangeburg; five sisters, Hialia H. Spells of Philadelphia, Patricia (Ivan) Rivers Rice of Bronx, N.Y., Patricia Disher, Onetha (Sam) Jennings and Annette Rivers, all of Orangeburg; a special friend, Eugenia Yvette Casley of Orangeburg; two aunts; two uncles; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 25, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel. He was born in Orangeburg, a son of the late Reginald Rowe Wolfe Sr. and Ruth Folk Wolfe. A graduate of the University of South Carolina, he served in the United States Army.

He was a member of the Rotary Club of Orangeburg and Riverland Hills Baptist Church. He was a beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Whitney W. Thoma and Christopher of Chapin; a sister, Lila W.

Roy Holler Funeral services for Roy Holler, 88, of 22 Hewitt Lane, St. Matthews, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 24, 2005, at Thompson Home Chapel in Orangeburg, with the Rev. Steven Rucker officiating. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery in Bloomfield, N.J.

Mr. Holler died Sunday, March 20, at Spring Hill Regional Hospital in Spring Hill, Fla. He was born Oct. 8, 1916, in Newark, N.J., a son of the late Chris Holler and the late Mildred Morris Holler. He was previously employed by The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.

He was preceded in death by Lonnie Mack. Survivors include his wife, Scottie Hewitt Holler of St. Matthews; 11 children, Roy Holler Jr. of California, Marlene Shinski of New Jersey, Dawn Barrera of Florida, Eula Williamson of Elgin, Annette Griffin of Spring Hill, Billy Hewitt of Cordova, Earl Hewitt of Cope, Johnny Hewitt of Eastover, Kermit Hewitt of Camden, Terry Hewitt of North Augusta, and Todd Hewitt of Orlando, and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m.

Wilhelmenia Keller Mrs. Wilhelmenia Keller 86, of 609 Liberty St. Matthews, died Sunday, March 20, 2005, at The Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday, March 24, at First Baptist Church, St. Matthews, with Pastor Timothy Dicks officiating.

Burial will be in Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church Cemetery, St. Matthews. The casket will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service. Mrs. Keller was born Aug.

3, 1918, in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Nathan and Pearl Brunson Mack. She was the widow of Haynes Edward "Smunk" Keller. She was a member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, where she served on the senior choir. She was named "Mother of the Church" on Nov. 21, 2004.

She was a domestic employee for many families in Calhoun County. She was a member of the NAACP, Neighborhood Community Action Committee, UPS, Council on Aging Advisory Board and the Clemson Extension Senior Citizen program. She was preceded in death by four sons, Peter, Nathan, Willie Edward and Richard Keller; one daughter, Paulette Keller; and a brother, Perry Mack. Survivors include Rebecca (Franklin) Keller and Jerline (George) Scott, both of St. Matthews, Lannette (James) Heatley of West Columbia; Harriett (Steve) Mickens of Ellenwood, Rosemary and Arlette Keller, both of St.

Matthews; one son, Lulvential (Cynthia) Keller of Brooklyn, N.Y.; daughters-in-law, Barbara S. Keller of Broadway, N.C., and Barbara Keller of New York; a sister-in-law, Frances Mack of St. Matthews; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends. She was the widow of Willie Daniels and was predeceased by two children, Loretta Daniels and Argary Daniels. Survivors include one son, Gabriel Capers (Mashell) of Holly Hill; two daughters, Mrs. Kriska (William) Morris and Mrs. Laura (Richard Benjamin, all of Holly Hill; two brothers, James Capers of Holly Hill and David Capers of Baltimore, one sister, Mrs. Ruby Benjamin of Staten Island, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He grew up in Cross and attended the public schools there. He was a member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church. He was predeceased by one son, Ervin Lambright; four sisters, Mrs. Miraha Gillard, Mrs. Ida Gillard, Mrs.

Essie Pinckney and Mrs. Jessie Mae Jackson.
