Huggins. Every act of kindness and love has been sincerely appreciated. The Huggins Family Orangeburg Department of Public Safety investigators are looking for the armed robber who struck a John C. Calhoun Drive business late Tuesday making of with a quantity of cash. Check Cash Inc.

employees told police that at about 4:30 p.m. an unknown man entered the business and "presented a small, black revolver and demanded money," a DPS report indicates. As employees were turning over money to the robber, he began yelling "faster." Tuesday's robbery is not related to the massive manhunt which continues for three youths believed to be behind a series of armed robberies in three counties. The man who entered the John C. Calhoun Drive business was described as an approximately 30-year-old white male with short brown haif.

He was wearing khaki pants and a dark blue shirt. The gunman dropped a black "skull cap" as he fled the parking lot with an undetermined amount of money. DCSO Staff Report Dorchester County Sheriff's Office investigators are asking the public's help for any information concerning a man who had suffered gunshot wounds and was found in an abandoned truck in St. George this week. Sheriff Ray Nash said that on Dec.

14, deputies located a blue Chevrolet S-10 pick up truck lodged in a ditch. on 3068 Wire Road. Upon inspection of the truck, deputies located a gunshot victim inside the Chevrolet. The driver apparently fled the wrecked truck leaving a man inside the cab. A nearby resident told deputies he had seen the driver of the truck walking beside his yard.

The driver apparently fled into the woods. Dorchester deputies assisted troopers stationed in Colleton County in the search in the woods while EMS workers removed the unidentified victim from the truck and transported him to the Trident Medical Center. EMS informed the officers the man had sustained gun shot wounds in his upper back. The Chevrolet was towed to an impound area where detectives went through the vehicle. The case is still under investigation.

"One of our goals in the sheriff's office is to maintain a good working partnership with the communities we serve," Nash said. "If any of our citizens have information concerning this incident, we want to know about it. Our joint cooperation will keep our crime rate spiraling down as we apprehend wrong-doers in a timely manner." The DCSO can be reached at 843-832-0300. In an unrelated report, a would-be thief proved to be a better runner than driver after the quick actions of a Flowertown Village man resulted in a bungled burglary last week. On Friday, the Flowertown Village 1 resident told deputies he entered his vehicle and called 911 after observing his red and black -terrain vehicle travel past him loaded on a utility trailer being towed by a Dodge van.

Deputies with the DCSO located the Dodge being followed by the Flowertown Village man on Highway 17. The driver of the van veered onto Cane Acres Road with the deputies and the Flowertown Village man in hot pursuit. Traveling at a high rate of speed, the driver lost control of the van containing a number of items believed to be stolen. The van crashed into a tree stump scattering an estimated $7,250 worth of stolen goods. The van driver then jumped out of the van and fled on foot.

A K-9 unit attempted to locate the subject, but was unsuccessful. A DCSO spokesman said when caught, the individual will be charged with grand larceny, malicious injury to personal property and failure to stop for a blue light. Any information concerning this matter should be given to the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office at 843-832-0300. Deadline for Bowman toy drive this Friday By CHASITY SANDERS CANADAY Bowman Correspondent BOWMAN The town of Bowman is sponsoring a toy drive to benefit needy children in the area for Christmas, but a lukewarm response has left the town worried that many will go without gifts during the holiday season. The town sent letters out to area churches, businesses and citizens asking for donations in the form of toys or monetary gifts to help fulfill the wishes of area children.

The town also requested that children in need send wish lists to the town so that Bowman could attempt to grant their holiday hopes. While the town has received numerous wish lists, they have only garnered a handful of donations, leaving them uncertain about the drive's outcome. The town is planning to host an evening of fun for local children and will have Santa at Bowman Town Hall on Dec. 23 to hand out gifts. However, the lack of donations has some worried that not all children who attend will even receive a gift.

Anyone making a donation will have their name displayed on the walls of the town hall, thanking them for bringing joy to a child this Christmas. Anyone interested in making a donation can do so at Bowman's Town Hall before Friday, Dec. 19 or by contacting Town Clerk Yvonne Lewis for more information. Correspondent Chasity Sanders Canaday can be reached by e-mail at or by phone at 803-854-4657.
