Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan.

5, at St, Stephens United Methodist Church, with Rev. James Smith ficiating. Burial will the Dr. ofbe Mr. Simon in the church cemetery.

Mr. Mannie L. Simon was born Aug. 8, 1932, in Bowman. He was the son of the late John and Lorine Simon.

He was called home to eternal rest on Wednesday, Jan. 2. He was a faithful member of St. Stephens United Methodist Church, where he served on the male chorus. He was employed by the Smithsonian Institution for a number of years.

Upon his returning back to South Carolina, he was employed by Belk of Orangeburg, from which he later retired. Mannie had a joy for working outdoors, as well as building and fixing things. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife, Sherry E. Simon; a daughter, Rita Simonof Landover, a granddaughter, Bianca Simon of Landover; two sisters, Mrs. Johnny Mae Glover of Bowman and Mrs.

Fairly B. (John) Johnson of Landover; four brothers, Mr. Willie Simon of New York, Joe L. Simon of Washington, D.C., and Albert (Margaree) Simon and Freddie Simon, both of Bowman; and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Viewing will be held from 1 to 8 p.m.

Friday, Jan. 4, at Glover's Funeral Home. Friends may call at the residence and the funeral home. Sammie Lee Warren Mr. Sammie Lee Warren of 1265 Edwards Holly Hill, died Wednesday, Jan, 2, 2013, at his residence following a brief illness.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Shulershall Funeral Home of Holly Hill. Family and friends may call at the residence and the funeral home. Eddie Louis Thomas Funeral service for Eddie Louis Thomas, 71, of Springfield, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Oakey Spring Baptist Church in Springfield.

The casket will be placed in the church at 1p.m. Mr. Thomas, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Reba) Thomas, passed away Monday, Dec.

31, 2012. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Thomas; his children, Terrance Gatson, Eric Thomas, Trellance Davis, Kelly Thomas and Kimberly Thomas; his siblings, Dorothy Glover and Lee Thomas; his mother-in-law, Annie Mae Boatwright; and seven grandchildren. Rane Anthony 'Andy' Richardson Funeral services for Mr. Rane Anthony "Andy" Richardson, 49, of 690 Dash Orangeburg, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Good Hope AME Church in Cope, with the pastor, Dr.

Georgeann T. Pringle, officiating. Burial 1 will follow in Belleville Memorial Gardens in Orangeburg. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service. Rane Anthony Richard- son, son of Margereen P.

and the late Willie D. Richardson was born Nov. 15, 1963, in Orangeburg County. He departed this life Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, in Atlanta.

In his youth, Anthony played baseball in the public athletic league with Lighting Creations and the Lions. He attended the public schools in Orangeburg, graduating from Orangeburg Wilkinson High School in 1981. Shortly afterward, he joined the United States Army and served for 11 years as a member of the military police corps. He recently married Yvonne Cobbs. He leaves to cherish his fond memories his children, Wykeisha M.

Richardson of Battle Creek, and Xiomara R. Richardson and Toneshia P. Rickerson, both of Augusta, his mother, Mrs. Margereen P. Richardson of Orangeburg; two brothers, Willie D.

(Lesia) Richardson Jr. of Columbus, and Purvis D. Richardson of Orangeburg; two sisters, Wonda Richardson Grayson of Virginia and Trianna Richardson (Kenneth) Hunter of Orangeburg; three grandchildren; and a host ofnieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends to cherish his memory. The family wishes to extend a very heartfelt thank you to Rane's cousin, Ms. Carolyn B.

sisters-in-law, cousins, family friends Lt. Col. Lt. Col. Vernon Fairey Van Duyn, 93, of Branchville, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, Jan.

2,2013. Mrs. Vernon was a daughter of the late Murray Eugene Fairey and Eula Lee Dukes Fairey. She studied nursing at Columbia Hospital in Columbia from 1937 to 1940, and then passed the exam for her R.N. She enlisted as a U.S.

Army nurse at Fort Bragg, N.C., in July of 1941. In April of 1943, she was assigned to the 56th Station Hospital. Her unit shipped out of the port of New York and, zigzagging to avoid submarines, it arrived in Casablanca, North Africa, soon after the Battle of Kasserine Pass. Vernon's final discharge came on July 31, 1969, with the rank of lieutenant colonel (after 22 years of active duty and six years reserve time). From January 1950 to 1952 (three years), she obtained a bachelor of science in public health nursing at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill (as the military had requested that all its nurses obtain a degree).

From 1970 to 1973, Vernon was a part -time student at Columbia Bible College in Columbia. From September 1973 to September 1974, she was a medical missionary for the Independent Board for Presbyterian Foreign Missions at Mwingi (in the bush, 125 miles northeast of Nairobi, Kenya). The mission was comprised of a hospital, clinic, church, Bible school and cottages. She returned home after one year, as her mother could no longer live alone. In 1978, Vernon married Ysbrand Van Duyn, a retired commercial flower grower, who was working on a master of science in biology at the University of South Carolina.

He later retired from running small environmental lab for Normandeau Associates in New Ellenton. They moved to Echo Mountain, near Hendersonville, N.C., for eight years, and then to The Methodist Oaks in Orangeburg. Vernon's nursing, college and military records, including her last uniform and medals, reside in the Salley Archives on Middleton Street in Orangeburg. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Ysbrand Cornelis Van Duyn; sister Frederica Fairey Reilley (Eugene H. Reilley nieces Dr.

Rosalyn Reilley (Dr. James Zakem) and Marie Reilley Preser (Dr. Greg Presser); nephew Eugene H. Reilley III; great -nieces Heather and Katie Reilley, Lauren Presser Williams (J.R. Williams) and Diana Zakem; and great -nephews Charles Zakem and Jackson Presser.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, at Branchville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bill Burke officiating. Burial will be in Sardis Cemetery in Branchville.

Online condolences can be sent to www.ottfh.com. Vernon Fairey Van Duyn William Burwell Brandenburg Jackson "Jack" Grimes, 95, of 811 Lady Bug Circle, Bamberg, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan.

5, 2013, at Eden Baptist Church, Bamberg. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Grimes was born Sept. 20, 1917, to the late Adam and Josephine Harrison Grimes.

Jack, as he was known by relatives and friends, joined the Eden Baptist Church at a young age. Here he served faithfully in many capacities, including singing on the church choir, and the F.H. Martin Male Chorus, and as a church trustee. He attended the public schools of Bamberg County. Jack furthered his education at what is now Denmark Technical College, where he majored in tailoring and building construction.

Serving his country with honors during World War II, he received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army. He retired from River Plant after 28 years of service. Survivors include a son, Julius (Carolee) Washington of Tampa, a daughter -inlaw, Elizabeth Grimes of Graniteville; eight grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; six great -great grandchildren; a great -great -great -grandchild; dedicated caregivers, nephew Johnny (Michelle) Grimes; nieces Ruth Kizer, Josephine (Willie) Caldwell, Rosa (John) Hicks, Evelyn (Varnedo) Muhammad, Darlene (Ernest) Williams, Jessie (Alonzo) Irons and Alma (James) Richburg; and a special lifelong friend, Lucile Washington. Carroll Mortuary of Bamberg is in charge of services.

Friends may call at the home of his niece, Mrs. Ruth Kizer, 811 Lady Bug Circle, Bamberg, SC, or the church fellowship hall after the burial. Shannon Lee Martin Shannon Lee Martin, 32, of 107 4th Orangeburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m.

Saturday, Jan. 5, at the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Orangeburg, with the Rev. Bob Ossewaarde officiating. Mr. Martin was born March 7, 1980, in Bamberg, the son of Joan Greening Martin and the late Harold Dean Martin.

He was a former employee of Piggly Wiggly. Survivors include his mother, Joan Martin of Orangeburg; a brother, Harold Dennis (Tammy) Martin of Orangeburg; his Greta Hooker of Orangeburg, and her children, Hailey, Alana and Robert and number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at his mother's residence, 107 4th Orangeburg. Theresa Byrd, 85, of 375 Winward Orangeburg, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Glover's Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Horace Huggins officiating. Mrs.

Byrd died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at the Regional Medical Center, Orangeburg, following an extended illness. Viewing will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, at Glover's Funeral Home.

Saturday, Jan. 5, at Bryant Mausoleum in Sunnyside Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. Frank Larisey officiating. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m.

Saturday at Dukes- -Harley Funeral Home, Orangeburg. Mrs. Bryant was born in Orangeburg, a daughter of the late Lenaire Frances Wolfe and Nellie Farnum Wolfe. She was a graduate of Orangeburg High School and attended Winthrop College. Mrs.

Bryant was a member of the Episcopal Church ofthe Redeemer. She was married for 65 yearsto the late James Seignious Bryant Sr. and was predeceased by a granddaughter, Susan Davis Rast; a son-in-law, 'Dr. W.L. Davis; and daughters-in-law, Shirley Strobel Bryant and Elaine Davis Bryant.

Survivors includethree sons, James S. Bryant Lenaire F. Bryant and Barry F. Bryant; a daughter, Elizabeth Seignious B. "Liz" Davis; grandchildren Camille Bryant (Tony) Ard, Jayme B.

(Stephen) Bonnette, James (Louise) S. Bryant III, Frances (Danny) Dantzler, Nancy Elizabeth Nettles, W. Mrs. Rosia Williams, daughter of the Late Mrs. Lillie Stoutamire Brown and Mr. Tyler Robinson was born Aug. 10, 1927, in Holly Hill.

Mrs. Williams grew up in Holly Hill and attended the public schools there. She graduated from Roberts High School in 1969. At an early age, she became a member of Bethel AME Church in Holly Hill, but changed her membership to Rock Hill AME in Vance after entering into holy matrimony to the late Edward L. Williams.

She served in a number of organizations during her time at Rock Hill and was a faithful member until her health failed. With her union came four children. The oldest son, Mervin L. Williams, preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her loving memories two sons, Morris E.

Williams of Holly Hill and Jon (Leofice) Williams of Orangeburg; a daughter, Mrs. Pearl (James Bowman of Orangeburg; a foster son, Derrick (Alisa) Johnson of Columbia; a loving sister, Mrs. Lillian Powell of Columbia; a sisterin-law, Mrs. Eula M. Dabney of Philadelphia; a daughter -inlaw, Ms.

Melva T. Williams of Chester; nine grandchildren; four step- -grandchildren; eight great -grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Friends may call at Eutawville Community Funeral Home. The obituary deadline is 5 p.m. daily.

SOUTH CAROLINA Name released of woman stabbed to death in Columbla COLUMBIA (AP) Authorities have released the name of a woman deputies say was stabbed to death by her boyfriend, put into a plastic container and taken to the parking lot of a Columbia McDonald's restaurant. Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said Thursday that 25-yearold Temukisa Enele from Pago Pago, American Samoa, died after she was stabbed several times. He was being held at the Richland County jail and it wasn't clear if he had an attorney. 7 Injured as SUV, school bus collide in Georgetown GEORGETOWN (AP) Seven people, including four students, were taken to the hospital when an SUV collided with a school bus in Georgetown. It happened on Thursday about 8 a.m. A spokesman for the Georgetown County schools says the four children suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital for observation.

The bus driver and two people in the SUV were also taken to the hospital. All of them were also reported to have minor injuries. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins says the accident happened when a Ford Expedition sideswiped a car stopped in the road. The SUV continued on and then hit the school bus.

It took authorities about an hour to clear away the wreck..
