The Times Tuesd 27, 2016 A3 00 1 OBITUARIES Frank Bedford Best Jr. Frank Bedford Best 90, of Orangeburg, died Friday, Dec. 23, 2016, at his residence. Frank was the husband of his beloved wife, Vivian Rucker Best, for over 70 years. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m.

Wednesday, Dec. 28, at the Church of The Redeemer, Orangeburg, with The Very Rev. John Burwell and the Rev. Frank Seignious officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Orangeburg.

Mr. Best, a son of the late Frank B. Best Sr. and Frances Abbott Best of Orangeburg, attended Emory University in Atlanta. Frank later graduated from Chenier Radio Engineering College in Beaumont, Texas.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II as a radio-transmitting operator at NPM, Wahiawa, Oahu, transmitting in the Pacific. In 1941, the family moved from Atlanta to Orangeburg, where his father was owner and publisher of the Orangeburg Observer Newspaper. In 1947, he joined his father in operating radio station WDIX. He then joined Peterson Outdoor Advertising as an accountant executive. Frank was a communicant of the Episcopal Church of the edeemer in Orangeburg, serving as a lay reader, teacher, choir member, youth adviser, vestryman, junior and senior warden, a delegate to the Dioces an Convention and the Diocesan Standing Committee, and the Commission on Ministry.

In May 2002, the Lower Savannah Regional Advisory Committee nominated him as the outstanding South Carolinian of the Lower Savannah Region. Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Vivian Rucker Best of the home; three daughters, Charlotte Best Seignious (the Rev. Frank P. Seignious) of Summerville, Emily Best West (Thomas M.West) of Georgetown, and Frances Best Graves (Samuel H. Graves) of Cape Neddick, Maine; six grandchildren, Michael Carter, Mary Frances Robinson, Adelaide Bulter, Dorsey Goschy, Samuel Graves Nicholas Graves; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister in-law, May W.

Best; and a nephew, Guy W. Best. Mr. Best was predeceased by his brother, Abbott Best, and sisters-in-law, Helen R. Reese and Ruthie R.

Mr. Best Nancy Workman Barnes Nancy Workman Barnes, 77, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, formerly of Orangeburg, died on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2016, in Braselton, Georgia. Her funeral is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec.

28, at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home, 3379 Columbia Road NE, Orangeburg, SC 29118, with the Rev. Kris Aaron officiating. Interment will be at Wateree Baptist Church, 2024 Haile Camden, SC 29020. Visitation will be held before the service from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home.

The wife of the late George Ralph Barnes, Mrs. Barnes was a graduate of Clemson University. Mrs. Barnes was active in a number of organizations in her lifetime, most notably a board member at the Family Health Center. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Orangeburg, Daughters of the American Revolution, and started a scholarship program at South Carolina State University.

Mrs. Barnes was retired from the Middleton Agency. She is survived by her sister, Dr. Mary Eugenia Workman Sanders (Tommy Max) of San Angelo, Texas; two nieces, Rachel Sanders Fabre (Rudy) of Houston, Texas; and Sarah Sanders Ford (Honcho) of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; sister-in-law, Martha Siebers (Karl) of Hilton Head Island; three nephews, Scott Siebers (Susan) of Santa Clara, California, Bill Siebers (Ja) of Irmo and Don Siebers (Melissa) of Bellevue, Washington. Margaret Ann Fogle Margaret Ann Fogle, 70, of Norway, died on Saturday, Dec.

24, 2016, at MUSC of Charleston following an unexpected health issue. The family will have a visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 27, at Thompson Funeral Home Inc. in Orangeburg.

The casket will be placed in the church one hour before the service Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, at Norway Baptist Church, 5004 Norway Road, Norway, SC 29113, with the Rev. Robert Jumper and the Rev. Ben Harr officiating.

Burial will follow in Norway Cemetery Pallbearers will be Lee Fogle, David Fogle, Johnny Fogle, Ron Phillips, Bobby Robinson and John Steverson. Mrs. Fogle was born Oct. 17, 1946, and was the daughter of the late James M. Hutto and Margaret F.

Hutto. She was an active member of Norway Baptist Church, where she was a deacon. She spent many years teaching a Sunday school class, sang in the choir, was the WMU director and had various other responsibilities. She was predeceased by her brother, Jimmy M. Hutto, and her sister, Janie Doles.

Mrs. Fogle is survived by her husband of 52 years, David (Coker) Fogle of the home; a daughter, Chris F. Robinson (Shad Inabinet) of Orangeburg; a son, David (Rusty) Fogle and his wife, Tavia of Springfield; and three granddaughters, Rebecca Ann Fogle, Mary Margaret Fogle and Elie Grace Fogle. She is also survived by her mother, Mrs. Margaret Hutto of Norway; sisters, Shirley (Richard) Spires of Norway and Hazel Fogle of Elgin; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Deloris Simmons Mrs. Deloris Simmons, 73, of 2569 7th New York, died Thursday, Dec.

15, 2016, at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York following a brief illness. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, at Emancipation Missionary Baptist Church in St. Matthews, with the Rev.

Burdell V. Hill, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Crestlawn Memorial Cemetery in Orangeburg. Mrs. Simmons will be placed in the church at 10 a.m.

Mrs. Simmons was born Nov. 13, 1943, a daughter of the late William and Catherine Magnolia Baker Gilyard. At an early age, she joined Emancipation Missionary Baptist Church. She graduated from Wilkinson High School in 1961 and S.C.

State College with a bachelor of science degree in biology. She re ceived her degree in social work from New York University. Mrs. Simmons was employed as a licensed social worker at the Administration for Social Services in New York City. Deloris was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, American Bridge Association and Canaan Baptist Church, NYC, where she served in many ministries.

Survivors include her daughter, Kelly Michelle Simmons of the home; two brothers, William (Dianne) Gilyard III, Gregory Gilyard, Augusta, three sisters, Jacqueline L. Gilyard, NYC, Vivian G. Brannon and Burnnette G. (Leroy) Jamison, both of Orangeburg; four brothers-in-law; five sisters-in-law; three godchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Owens Funeral Home of Branchville is in charge of arrangements.

Dora Carolyn Gray was born on Feb. 14, 1945, in Orangeburg. After a short stay with Tidewell Hospice Care in Sarasota, Florida, she entered gates on Dec. 23, 2016, welcomed by her parents, Richard and Gladys Player, who preceded her in death. Carolyn graduated from Edisto High School in Cordova, with the class of 1963.

On June 8, 1967, she was united in marriage to O. Tyrone Gray in Orangeburg. She made her life here in Cordova. She worked as an administrative assistant at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Ethyl, Roper, OCtech and CSC. After leaving the working world, Carolyn was a homemaker, loving and devoted mother and granny.

In her spare time she enjoyed reading, traveling to sports events, whether for the grandchildren or Clemson Tiger football games, and annual family vacations. She is survived by her loving husband O. Tyrone Gray of 49 years of Cordova; three children, Dr. Theres a (Carlos Roman) Rashdan of Parrish, Florida, Tracy (Chris) Sandifer of Cope and Tara (Dr. James Cocco of Sarasota, Florida, and an daughter, Cheray Still inger of Holly Hill; seven grandchildren, Taylor Sandifer, Austin Sandifer, Amir Rashdan, Tarek Rashdan, Logan Cocco, Cooper Sandifer and Blake Cocco; two step-grandchildren, Ariana Roman and Adison Roman; two siblings, Aaron (Betty Ann) Rudd of Cordova and Kay (Wayne) Johnston of Columbia.

Carolyn leaves behind beloved nieces and nephews, Ronnie Rudd, Patricia Huff, Stephanie Thomas, Steven Johnston, Dr. Andrea Maas, as well as aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Viewing and visitation will be held at Thompson Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec.27. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m.

Wednesday, Dec. 28, at St. George Baptist Church, 2590 Shillings Bridge Road, Orangeburg, and interment will follow at St. George Baptist Church Cemetery. Family will receive family and friends at Chris and Tracy home, 433 Banning Cope.

May Bell Gilyard Felder The funeral for Mrs. May Bell Gilyard Felder, 73, of 1959 Bowman Branch Highway, Bowman, will be held at noon Wednesday, Dec.

28, 2016, at Prospect United Methodist Church, 845 Prospect Rowesville, with the Rev. Ollie M. Boyd, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The casket will be placed in the church on hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Felder Jeannie Martin Priester Mrs. Jeannie Martin Priester, 83, of Broxton Bridge Road, Ehrhardt, entered into eternal rest on Christmas Eve while surrounded by her loving family in Hospice of Charleston in Mount Pleasant.

She was the loving wife of 57 years to the late Mr. William Leon Priester at the time of his death in 2014. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016, at Ehrhardt Baptist Church, 427 Allen Ehrhardt, with the Rev.

Kelly Shanks officiating. Interment will follow on the family plot in Ehrhardt Cemetery. A daughter of the late James Samuel Martin Sr. and the late Willie Mae Walling Martin Bowers, she was born March 18, 1933, in Colleton County, having made Ehrhardt her home for the past 56 years. She retired from the United States Postal Service in Bamberg following a long and dedicated career as a clerk in Bamberg, having during her tenure served many of the other surrounding areas.

A longtime member of Ehrhardt Baptist Church, she was a member of the Social Committee and Adult Sunday School Class, as well as having served in many aspects of the work. greatest love and priority in life was her family. She devoted herself to the needs of her husband and children whom she adored. She was also a great Southern cook, who enjoyed canning and was famous in her own way for her German chocolate cake. Surviving are Mr.

and Mrs. Rusty (Paula) Ulmer of Irmo, Mr. and Mrs. Michael (Myra) Crosby of Ruffin, Mr and Mrs. Robert (Janice) Wrightenberry of Bamberg, Mr.

and Mrs. William Leon (Julie) Priester Jr. (Bill) of Bamberg, Mr. and Mrs. Leo (Lynda) Warren of Williams; 10 grandchildren, Ryan Ulmer of Iva, Blake Ulmer of Irmo, Mr.

and Mrs. Alton (Ashlyn Crosby) Smith of Varnville, Jeremy Crosby of Ruffin, Mr. and Dr. Will (Anna Marie Wrightenberry) Evans of Williams, Rob Wrighten berry of Bamberg, Mr. and Mrs.

Dillon (Amber) Walling of Bamberg, Will Priester of Bamberg, Caroline Warren and Connor Warren of Williams; and five great-grandchildren, Luke Smith and Jack Smith of Varnville, Kayleigh Ulmer of Irmo, and Anna Cate and Worth Evans of Williams. 26, 2016. Kay was born in Ashepoo on July 1, 1940, to the late Harold and Kathleen Delk Hightower. She is survived and dearly loved by her husband of 58 years, Merrell C. Still of the home; sons Chip Still (Jackie) and Stevie Still (Tammy); granddaughter Lauren Still Croft (Martin); grandson, Trey Still (Jo Anna); and great-grandsons, Jase Croft and Grayer Croft; her brother, Robert Hightower of High Point, North Carolina; and many nieces and nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Delk Hightower, and a sister, Anne Hightower Williamson.

Kay lived life to its fullest and was the matriarch of the Still family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. She was an avid card player, fisherman, cook and traveler. She inv ested her time in her family and friends and to helping others. Kay never met a stranger and had a talent for entertaining and making others feel welcome.

A 1958 graduate of Denmark-Olar High School, she was voted wittiest, friendliest and most dependable and most athletic. She was an active member of Reedy Branch Baptist Church and a former leader and director of youth Sunday school. She was greatly involved in the community, including the Sandlapper League, Southern Carolina Alliance, American Cancer Society, the Red Hat Societ and the Winton Assembly. She was retired from Regions Bank as senior vice president and was in Who of American Business In 2015, she was named Economic Development Ambassador of Barnwell County. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m.

Tuesday, Dec. 27, at Hagood Avenue Baptist Church in Barnwell. The funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, in Hagood Avenue Baptist Church, with burial to follow in the Reedy Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.
